Parallel Space is a multidisciplinary, independent art hub that seamlessly integrates a contemporary gallery with a versatile exhibition space. Operating at the intersection of cultural engagement and art acquisition, it transcends the traditional "white-cube" model, serving as a dynamic alternative venue. After seven impactful years in its duplex unit on Tai Nan Street, Sham Shui Po, the gallery closed its doors on October 28, 2025, and is currently preparing to relocate to a new home.
Founded in 2018 by Creative Director and Curator Kim Lam, Parallel Space quickly distinguished itself as one of Hong Kong’s most prolific independent galleries, hosting over 80 exhibitions. The space has been a vital experimental platform for both emerging academic graduates and established local artists whose work captures the unique contemporaneity of Hong Kong. Throughout its tenure, the gallery’s programming served as a subliminal cultural record, mirroring the city’s rapid transformations—from the social shifts of 2019 and the COVID-19 era to the national security law imposed on the city.
The gallery is defined by a multifaceted identity, seamlessly blending in-house curations parallel with co-curated projects and programs proposed by artists, creatives, and cultural events hosted by an NGO. This collaborative model has fostered a rich diversity of artistic expression, spanning visual arts such as painting, illustration, ceramics, and installation. Throughout the years, Parallel Space has featured a juxtapositional list of artists and creatives: including Yeung Hok Tak, Little Thunder, Prodip Leung, Giraffe, Leung Lok Hei, Elizabeth, Li Shan Shan, Dallas Lee, Wong Ping, Kanny Yeung, Laura Zhang, Orange Terry, PHEW, Rex Koo, Humchuk, Lousy, Cowrice, Karena Lam, Au Yeung Ping Chi, Phoebe R, Tap Chan, Dom from SFZ, Chan Oi Ying, Maoshan Connie, Don Mak, Jeremy Ip to name but a few, we also worked with photographers for their visual expression included: Deacon Lui, Jimi Tsang, Topaz Leung, Miss Bean, and many others.
By integrating collaborative projects with our own signature exhibitions, the gallery has developed a hybrid identity that represents a new form of exhibition space previously unseen in Hong Kong. As a self-funded entity, Parallel Space has pioneered a subversive model that has redefined Hong Kong's exhibition culture, demonstrated a fresh methodology, and offered a thoughtful, layered viewing experience that bridges the gap between art & local culture enthusiasts and the acquisition of works by our featured artists.
